All About Japan: Stories, Songs, Crafts and More

TOKYO —

A book for families to treasure together, “All About Japan” offers not only the most important facts about Japan, but also reflects the spirit that makes Japan one-of-a-kind. You’ll dive into stories, try new crafts, play some games from Japan, learn Japanese songs ... it’s the next best thing to being there.

—Learn the steps of Coal Miner’s dance, a nighttime highlight of the O-bon festival.
—Try making your own samurai helmet, folding a leaping origami frog or singing the “sakura” (cherry blossom) song.
—Make “nengajo” (New Year greeting cards), create your own haiki, learn to use chopsticks and more.
—Enjoy stories like “The Creation of Japan” and “The Star-Crossed Lovers.”
—Make tasty treats like “mochi” (sweet rice cakes popular at New Year) and “okonomiyaki” (Japanese-style pancakes).

The OTT bumpf notwithstanding about **Unique Japan **( "treasure"? really?) it's probably a good book for kids newly arrived here, or for a culture class abroad.

As Maria said, this sounds like the kind of book that would be great for kids in a school library. There should be a series of these books, which would allow kids to learn things about a different country every week.
