I think ol' Roger Daltry is off the mark here and can provide a quick rebuttal without having to think too hard about it: Doughtry.

Maybe Roger's a bit miffed that the last names are so similar and felt like snubbing him? ;-)

I'll put it a different way - there aren't too many bands out there that have a classic "front man."

Rob Thomas is another. Part of Roger's problem seems to be that "his" style of rock and roll is on the wane and other forms of music have replaced it in popularity. He kind of dug himself into a hole with the "great singers but not lead singers" quote. Why can't a great singer be a lead singer? The answer is that they CAN. I think what Roger was trying to point out is easily identifiable voices which has absolutely nothing to do with being a great lead singer in a band. (i.e. Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, most of the winners of "Idol", Dave Grohl...)
