But would the plot have to do with Hawaii as much as most Hollywood films shot in New Zealand have to do with that country?

The first was good, 2nd and 3rd were ok, but weak. Not particularly looking forward to the 4th. I'll watch it of course, but certainly not expecting much.

wow .... I thought they were finished with this film. Sorry but a fourth just seems like they are milking it dry. A shame. Films become legendary only when they finish on a high. Just look at the matrix. It was an amazing first film and then it just went down hill. Bad move disney.

How about Orlando and Keira? Yes, indeed, they do seem to be milking it dry.

Keira is so over-rated. Kate Beckinsale is way sexier (please tell Keira the emaciated look is NOT sexy!) and a much better actress.

Second one sucked. I wanted to take a shower after watching it. Just gross.

Just keep milking that cash cow, Johnny. People who watch those films deserve whatever they get.

    I hope it's better than the 2nd and 3rd.

The setting for the 1st one was completely wrong too. Even though it was filmed in the Caribbean (Dominica), its portrayal of Port Royal (Jamaica) was completely inaccurate. For example, there are no cliffs in Port Royal as it is at sea level.

    "How about Orlando and Kiera?"

Haven't you heard? Well, it's not in this article, but those two have called it quits on the Pirates series. Geoffrey Rush, however, will be back as Cap'n Barbossa, ha ha ha, this is gonna be great, even without Kiera and Orlando!
No, wait, I'm thinking about the first 2 movies, the 3rd one just didn't do it for me...

I am looking forward to the new Pirates! I am bummed it will not be filming in so.cal. We watched the other 3 being made. Saw Johnny in Redondo Beach. Saw them filming on the Black Pearl too.

Orlando and Kiera's parts were never in the 4th movie. I was told this was a prequel.

The first and the 2nd were good. 3rd was meh, but it gave us closure to the 2nd part of the series. And yes of course Disney is going to milk their cash cows dry if they can. 4th one may be decent enough since it will pretty much be based on a book that came out waay before this movie series was dreamed up. Don't go with high expectations, just go for entertainments sake. All movies are not created to be oscar winners, they're created to entertain people who want something to enjoy for fun. Studios just happen to make money off of how many people are entertained by their work.

Depp gets another $20 million. Cha-ching. He lives in France now so has to pay for those expensive cheeses.

He is perfect for the role however.

pirates has turned into the whole matrix thing for me. i cant even tell them apart at this point.

they're not gonna please everyone and theres always gonna be the nit pickers, but ultimately they are good movies.

i wont be first in line

Great for Gov. Lingle, trumpeting this "win" for the state while at the same time slashing most of the staffing for the state's Film Office, virtually guaranteeing that future projects will be few and far between, and poorly supported if and when they do transpire. The Film Office is responsible for generating almost $200 million annually for the state in filming-related revenue, but with three of four staffers laid off (the office itself is required by law to remain in place, even if it has ZERO staff), its ability to continue to attract new projects is seriously in jeopardy.

I am will Molenir, except I will downgrade the second and third films from being good, to having some good parts.

Yeah, I like Capt. Jack, but still, I almost stopped watching in the middle of the second one. The first one was great for having some subtlety about the paranormal. Its really too bad they had to go and pull out all the stops. One can only hope they will relearn the lessons of the first movie.

I guess I'm a little surprised that Johnny Depp decided to do this 4th movie. I didn't think he was just in it for the money, hence some of the stranger movies he has made. But I guess when someone is waving 20 million dollars in front of you, it is hard to refuse.

Does anyone still give a tupenny fart about this franchise? During the last battle in POTC3 I asked my wife to explain the goings on to me. She had no idea. There were big ships and big waves fighting to be in the foreground. It was the most confusing scene in a movie since those buses and cars driving around and around in The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour.

Smart move for Disney. They're just wrapping up the final season of Lost on Oahu and now they can just sart shooting the next Pirates film without having to run power or set up trailers and equipment.

The fact that its being filmed anywhere is distressing and disappointing. All that money wasted for such an lackluster result.
