The King debased his memory by dying on the john in a big nappy.

What a sensationalist , simplistic and irrelevant comment from cubic.

A simple Google for details of his death and likely reasons for it, shows it`s much more complicated than that.

And everyone releases their bowels / other bodily fluids at the moment of death. Be prepared for that.

Nobody dies elegantly, death is never pretty.

Only 42, he was; and by all accounts a good man. Far too young to have died.

He was a good man - just the way he went had a big impact on his legacy. Once he returned from the army, he was always struggling to keep up with modern musical trends at the time, and seemed desperate to keep himself relevant. No doubt he was a very talented singer though.

the way he went had a big impact on his legacy

It's a real shame that this is the case - that his death has become so visual in people's minds. He was a man with some clear, but nowadays such treatable health issues, which simply weren't taken care of properly. If we can get past Hendrix and Joplin with needles and vomit; Cobain with his skull shot out; even Houston in the bathtub (all these deaths far more self-inflicted, if you know what I mean) - get past all that and just focus on the talent, why can`t we do that with Presley?

His '68 TV special, all in black leather, remains one of his hottest performances - ah! what a sexy, and humorous man!

why can`t we do that with Presley

Probably because he was the first of all those you mentioned, and the black humour element in the way that he went. I'm not condoning making fun of it - just that this is probably why people use it as a point of mockery.

He may have been a good singer, but those films he made were absolute rotten rubbish.

You mean the first that died? No, Hendrix and Joplin were earlier - 1970? He was the first of them to perform, and much more universally loved though.

Anyhoo, 35 years ago, but I remember it well - my mother wept terribly.

They were pretty bad films, but hell, a wo/man has to make a living...
That said, I haven't watched a one of them for decades - I bet they're still good Sunday afternoon viewing, if there's pizza and wine...

Maria, who drinks wine with pizza for God's sake!!

I never liked his music, but the fact that 35 years later still thousands of people gather in his memory and listen to his songs deserves respect. Who cares how he died, what drugs he abused, or what women he slept with? He was a singer, and his music, which stands the test of time, is all that matters. Everything else is rubbish gossip (same with MJ)

I bet Elvis likes beer, and I bet that contributed to his problems with bloating and poor digestion and constipation, poor thing.

I don't see the point in drinking something that makes me bloated, gassy, and running off to the loo every 5 minutes. Especially something that doesn't even taste that good anyway < ducks >

Yeah, you're right - my bad. Maybe it's just the black humour thing that is still why people poke fun at him then. It just seems like a very unfitting end for the career and life that he had, kind of like Oscar Wilde in a way.

I just pray the man rests in peace. His legacy speaks for itslef.

Some good tunes. Rubbish movies. Then his fame caught up with him and he went to seed. the later years in the one piece spangly jumpduit were plain awful. And finally died from overeating - not a proper rock starb demise.

Total respect for the man's music, and for what he was when he made it. As was said, the fact that 35 years later people are still crooning out his tones says a lot.

    CapnSinbad

Elvis never drank beer ever. His bloating was caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, a twisted-colon, and polypharmacy, all of which contributed to his early demise. That and he didn't care about being alive much anymore what with having done it all to the Nth degree: he was burnt-out big time.

An amazing singer and performer. Totally unique and still imitated.

In 1970 The King arranged to meet then-president Richard Nixon (Republican). Presley wanted to be made a federal agent. Said he was worried about radical losers like "the hippie elements, the SDS, Black Panthers" . Said he had even studied "Communist brainwashing techniques" and drug abuse. Maybe by 1970, still only in his thirties, he was already going downhill. He later presented Nixon with a gift - - a WW2 Colt 45 pistol.
