if you can't talk about something you just paint yourself into a corner

The notion of Godzilla being some sort of nuclear mutant creature was the main premise behind the Godzilla saga.

It is unbelievable and exceedingly worrisome that government censorship pressure has become so strong (and pro-nuclear) that the designers would feel the need to steer clear of the story's central theme.

Nuclear experts say the levels of exposure were not high or sustained enough to cause widespread health problems >but there are some risks, such as the thyroid cancer in youngsters, which is being monitored.

Ha! Understatement of the century there....

Cowards! Godzilla was born out of the result of playing with nuclear materials and the fallout of it. That they can't mention that because it would reflect badly on the current malpractices of the government and energy companies is pathetic. I hope the game is a universal flop and yet still generates talk about nuclear power as a result.

One of the 21st cnetury films had Godzilla as being created from all the souls of the Japanese who died in WW2 and want to destroy Japan as punishment for forgetting about them: ゴジラ・モスラ・キングギドラ 大怪獣総攻撃.

As far as I know it's the only one that seems to actively deny his nuclear/atomic origins. I'd have to watch them all again to be sure... :D

It would be a misguided decision to effectively pave over a watershed historical moment in Japanese history for the sake of "total coolness."

"“We realize radiation is something that can never be disassociated with Godzilla,” is all Fujita would say on the topic.

"But we're sure gonna' try" seems to be impled pretty strongly at the end of this quote.

It's like creating a first-person shooter called, "Escape from Auschwitz," and erasing any reference to Nazis.

Ah, the audacity and impetuousness of youth...
