McDonald's starts home delivery from one outlet on trial basis

McDonald’s Japan this week launched a home delivery service on a six-month trial basis from one outlet in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward. The outlet is the McDonald's near the Tomei Expressway's Yoga Exit.

A McDonald's Japan spokesperson said the trial is aimed at elderly consumers and children. He said the company is planning to expand the trial service to 10 other branches through next May.

The delivery service has two conditions. The minimum order is 1,500 yen and the place for delivery has to be within 10 minutes of the McDonald's outlet by motorbike. Orders will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., but the McDonald's spokesperson said the company is considering keeping some stores open for 24 hours.

To place an order, call 0570014355.

New MCD"s slogan: "Your ass is not getting fat quick enough, so we'll deliver"!

I'll take 5 Big Mac's and fries please, add a couple of shakes and throw in a few choco pies.

That should be 1,500 yen at least.

I believe McDonald's has been doing this for a while in South Korea. Why is Japan lagging behind?

Truly lazy people will use this service. Very sad

I thought McD over here did that already or atleast a few years ago there was talk about it.

Not that I would consider ordering from them. My local Pizzahut has got some great deals(Wed half-price pizza, rainy day coupons(M->L size), etc).

Do they have a 'crash cart' service too?

The Mos Burger near me was delivering at least 2 years ago. If your seating area is already full, and you're turning away customers, delivery service might make sense financially. Motor bike fee, gasoline, insurance, and labor cost for the delivery staff. In exchange, you get extra sales, and some advertising, without the cost of additional seating.

Everytime I come to Tokyo I almost get run over by one of those speeding motorbikes delivering food(like some surreal comedy). Just my luck this vegetarion will finally get smashed by a McDonald's bike.

Mac food gets cold in about 30 seconds! Why would anyone want to eat cold burgers and soggy fries?

Why would anyone want to eat cold burgers and soggy fries?

Because its good for you?

I think I am within the 10 minute delivery area but I can WALK to a McD's in 10 minutes and actually exercise off the calories I would otherwise consume there.

If I really wanted McD's, that is.

Would prefer that Burger King delivered instead.

How about something sensible, like all burger people get some of their staff, or specially hired hands, to clean up, the burger customers that emptied out trash at the ditches of the roads?

That would be a good move & people that live in those areas, will NOT have to do it almost every month.

Especially since not many people will usually spend 1500 at McDonalds, which is overpriced anyway. It's a good business idea.

@Chuckers

I can WALK to a McD's in 10 minutes and actually exercise off the calories I would otherwise consume there.

Calories burnt walking ten minutes (average build, average speed) = 52.

Calories in a Big Mac with medium fries = 940.

Stay home in the warm and get it delivered! ;)

Oh great. Now you don't have to get off your chair to eat McDonalds. Forget walking outside. Just find enough energy to make a phone call and you will be eating fries and a bigmacs in no time.

I talked to a guy in the gym the other day regarding gaining muscle weight (not flab); he said eat a McDonald's cheeseburger between lunch/dinner. He also said he sometimes eats 5 Big Macs in one day, and he is no fat at all.

ronaldk-- I've heard of that. My friend said he did the McDonald's diet, to get buff... I still don't think that's very healthy though, I can't imagine consuming 5 Big Macs in one day!

I agree. Apparently it is cheaper than buying the protein drink.

Wow... mcdonalds to the home... next it will be mcdonalds to your chair, then mcdonalds to your mouth... Mmmm I'm a sucker for McDonalds.

People used to grow and eat their own healthy food. Now we have crap delivered to us while we watch TV. That's sad.

I can see how all that growth hormone from modern cattle farming would do that, in combination with some weight lifting. I guess you could consider it a legal way to take steroids. Still, I´d say most people would do better to eat less, not more of that stuff.

That's nothing. I am part of a test project that will blow this out of the water. I have a tube hooked up to the nearest McD's, and three times a day, they put whatever I order into a blender and squirt it to my home. I can suck it down in about three minutes, get back to my life, and have them take the money out of my account.

I feel like I am part of the future. Hope you all can catch up one of these days.

"People used to grow and eat their own healthy food. "

I do this. It is difficult and inconvenient. It is not a joke to say that it is not "modern" at all. I do it basically as entertainment because it is so hard to do. It is "rewarding". GW and TheRat know what exactly what I am talking about.

McDonald's is successful because they give people exactly what they want. That is the problem. People certainly do not want difficult and inconvenient in any form.

What's next, White Castle adding a DeLorean drive in window and free ice? Taco Bell doublewide bean burrito with choice of salsa color? Wendy's trailerpark teriyaki burger? Burger King engagement onion rings? Somebody stop me...

This does not surprise me, since I lived in Istanbul, Turkey. Over there, it is common for all fast food chains to be delivered (including McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc.)
