Japan should get Olympic host job 2016, it will expand and boost japan's discipline, trade, business exposures and economic opportunities, like in did in China. The confidence boost as host of olympics will be very good economically for japan via 2016 games.
Not impressed ! Japan still has a long way to go before it trades "evenly" and fairly with its trading partners. This is nothing more than a reflection of outlandish fuel prices as mentioned. Japan's doors are still closed to open and unfettered trade !
Japan's exports will be limited to High Tech products only as such figures/volumes will not be high like exporting consumer goods. Japan will have to find alternatives and can not depends on exports alone.

After he had written this in an earlier post:
One that respects all nations and their people !
Well, I guess either he was speaking out of two ends, or that mantra was short-lived.
Freakashow... sorry, don't see the connection ! Since when is constructive criticism considered disrespectful to nations or people ??? A bit oversensitive don't ya think ?

2006 Tarrif Rates % (most recent comparision I could find)
http://www.wto.org/english/rese/bookspe/tariffprofiles06e.pdf
America 3.5%,EU 5.4%,Canada 6.8%, Australia 9.9%, Russia 11.4%,Japan 6.1%
Yes a long way to go before it trades "evenly" and fairly indeed. Actually facts are fun things.
Good Jorb, Good post. It seems that Japan is quite on par with the rest of the world in terms of trade. Australia, Russia, and Canada have even higher trade tarrif rates imposed, even though they are not deemed "developing countries". Of course, less developed countries such as India (32.0%) and Pakistan (20.4%) have higher tariff rates to protect their markets, but it is good to see other nations like Japan being in the less than 10% range. Of course, America has the responsibility of having the lowest tariff rate.
