We had better hope the agreement is ratified and goods can get flowing again.

We should also understand the lessons here. Dockworkers are not big winners at all in containerization and the globalization that was accelerated by the containerization of goods. Instead of large numbers of workers, now workers are fewer and use a lot of heavy machinery. The size of container vessels and the volume of trade means greater pressures on shippers to speed up work which then translates into an intensification of work.

The challenge of finding fairness in this setting is very real, and labor's options are not all that many.
