TOKYO —
At least 22 local governments have established new sections or increased the workforce to specifically attract companies to their regions, an industry ministry study showed Thursday. “Local authorities that fell behind in such campaigns are recently trying hard to catch up after new governors or leaders take office,” said an official of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The 22 governments comprise 12 prefectures including Miyazaki, and 10 cities and towns including the city of Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture. ‘‘Companies are demanding that the local governments deal with licensing procedures more smoothly and provide continuing attention and services even after they move into the regions,’’ another ministry official said.
