Just look at the mortgage bailout on US banks......those execs. accepted bonus checks with open arms.

This is Sony story. It has nothing to do with other companies' practice.

Like of course giving up their bonus' will surly fix all their problems..!?

Other than CEO Hirai, the rest of the execs are only giving up around 15~18 million each on average. A rather insignificant amount compared to their debts. They get to keep their executive jobs whilst firing thousands of other lower-paid staff...

They displayed that they are responsible in decision makings. Better than doing nothing. They did not promise to solve problems. This will become Japanese corporation culture. Do you think they do nothing and keep losing sales?

No executive or member of management should ever get a bonus when the company is losing money.. period.

”Sony reports its full-year results on May 9.” But the executives (presumably privy to the full-year results already) have foregone their bonuses ahead of time. This surely means that the full-year results stink. If I had the courage I would short Sony stock today.

Sony might recover with iPod, iPhone, i,,,, industry now. Movie business is doing very fine in USA. Sony Columbia, Sony, Sony,. after movie credit. Also, Sony might recover with tieing Olympia. In USA. new kind of x-ray machines are all Olympia products. Sony has excellnt TV products in USA but too expensive comparing other Japanese brand products. 3D, etc.

Pretty sure with those type of bonuses, the managers are already well off as it is.

I bought a Sony Cybershot camera. I like the quality, but have had much difficulty because I lost both the computer link cord and the battery charger. Instead of universally adaptable interfaces, often only Sony parts match their electronics. This makes them useless when there is no Sony store in your area. It's extremely frustrating when consumers can buy Sony electronics at a variety of different retail stores, but can't find the parts to maintain them. I think that has a lot to do with why Sony electronic sales are down.

Given up or told they will not get one? Two very different things.

I guess some people haven't heard of the internet yet.

All companies should revised their governance to allow share holders to vote on bonuses to executives. Bonuses should only be handed out when companies are making profit for the shareholders.

@toshiko I agree. Sony will stay strong in media(Movie) division.

Years ago, when Ford complained too many imported Japanese cars made Ford sales down. Japanese brand cars have been made in USA. He said Sony is losing sales because Japanese TV sales in USA. Another politician asked what kind car you drive. He said ;I only use American cars like Honda and Toyota' I only own Sony TV and Sony Computer" I think it was 2009. Sony has been back to Japanese way of invention in on-line related products. It analyze products and create better products. Korean companies just copy so they get sued by Apple, etc. There is no lawsuits against Japanese companies in USA. Hollywood and movie industries are thankful to Sony. Sony uses their old TV series to re-run specialty TV stations. So, new series production companies rather have contracts with Sony. There is CBS Sony company beside Sony Columbia.
