Aeon, Ito-Yokado to offer additional discounts

TOKYO —

Major Japanese retailers Aeon Co and Ito-Yokado Co will offer additional discounts to pass on benefits from the yen’s advance to consumers.

Aeon will expand the coverage of its discount campaign by 300 items from 1,000 at present. Margins of price cuts will range from 10% to 30%. The expanded campaign is set for Saturday through Feb 28.

Ito-Yokado, a unit of Seven & i Holdings Co will launch a second discount campaign involving a price reduction of up to 30% for 50 items for six days starting Wednesday.

    Really ? Just what American products do these supermarkets sell ? This is gonna be one skimpy discount promo ! Lemme see, Campbells soup, Skippy peanut butter, and... er, um, ahem ???
