Asahi's Super Dry sales in Russia jump

TOKYO —

Sales of Asahi Breweries Ltd’s Super Dry beer in Russia in 2008 are expected to jump almost 2.5-fold from the previous year, the Japanese brewer and its Russian production partner Baltika Breweries said Tuesday.

Super Dry sales in Russia for 2008 including imports from Japan are estimated at 360,000 cases, compared with 150,000 cases last year, according to the two firms that concluded a deal allowing the Russian firm to make Super Dry in Russia. One case contains the equivalent of 20 633-milliliter bottles.

Baltika Breweries is slated to begin production in June under the deal. Super Dry now sold in Russia is imported from Japan and the Czech Republic.

Baltika Breweries President Anton Artemiev said the company aims for Super Dry sales of 200,000 cases in 2008, 10 times the imports from the Czech Republic in 2007.

I hope they sell Aspirin with each can. Two sips of super dry and I get a super headache. Swill!
