"Asian Cars" is such a misleading label advanced by the South Korean manufacturers who rode into the global market on the trail of 50+ years of Japanese cars earning their reputation. How would Mercedes and BMW feel about being lumped together with Serbo-Croatian cars as "European Cars"?

OssanAmerican...Japanese cars are overated when you have hi-speed accidents. Compare to German and U.S. cars, Japanese cars are like beer cans that crumble and chances of survival is minimal. All small Japanese cars are dangerous. They don't care about safety. What is so good about Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Daihatsu cars that have over 50+ yeras of lousy reputation? Do Mitsubishi have any cars comparable to Korean Hyundai Equus?

Do any SK manufacturers have an excellent piece of a car as the Evo? Honda NSX or S2000? Hyundai or Kia are garbage compared to the Japanese counter-parts, not even talking about Germans.

This is a consumer report - therefore the users themselves contradict you. Also, SK cars car have very good designs (made by German designers) when compared with the bland "made 20 years ago" ALL Japanese cars nowadays have.

What's so good about Evo? It rides like hardwood concrete floor. Why don't you ride on this crap on long trip and see how comfortable it is. Nothing but a sore ride. You have to compare with $150K NSX with Hyundai to say it's better? And they don't make crappy S2000 anymore because there is no demand. You compare cars that they don't manufacturer anymore? Is this the best you can do?

"Japanese cars are overated when you have hi-speed accidents"

You hear this from every single European car supporter LOL. Yeah, nice job assembling a piece of metal without any consideration to fuel economy. It's an easy excuse when you don't have the required knowledge or expertise to increase gas mileage.

Have you heard of seat belt and airbag ? If you have a link to a RELIABLE article that proves German cars are actually safer then put it forward. Otherwise it's just a myth. Most Japanese cars are ranked high by insurance companies.

Not according to the Consumer Reports. Most of Hyudai-KIA cars are recommended buys. They may not come on top on every category, but they are often recommended buys by the magazine - which is better than American and European brands.

And once again, I'm not surprised by the Korean product bashing here again in this forum. This is why I will never buy anything Japanese - even if their cars can fly and never break down. I don't like the arrogant attitude.

Most "American" cars are built in foreign countries. There are only two US auto factories left in Detroit.

Best cars under $25,000, recommended by Consumer Reports. Based on this list, what's exactly the problem with the label "Asian cars are the best"?

This is a Japanese news site. You are more than welcome to come back to your beloved Korean media.

Back to the topic, Hyundai and Kia paid for recommendations, nothing unexpected.

What's so good about Evo? It rides like hardwood concrete floor

It's a sport car, not your regular comfort ride.

You have to compare with $150K NSX with Hyundai

So what you want to compare with? Best Japanese car vs. best Korean car

And they don't make crappy S2000 anymore

bulls. The 2nd generation production ended in 2010, not too long ago, still 1 of the hot roadsters sought after. Did Korean offer a roadster yet?

    LOL.

I'd say the Proudia is pretty comparable, yeah. Especially the first gen Equus...

"And once again, I'm not surprised by the Korean product bashing here again in this forum. This is why I will never buy anything Japanese" They are just sore having their key industries taken away by the koreans. East Asia is very sensitive atm due to tension in diplomatic relations. This "I am better than everyone" attitude is not healthy for Japan. Soon these areas will be gobbled up by the Koreans and Chinese before they realize what happened

On topic. it's great that Asian cars get recognition. I personally like FR-S and the Elantra. I am also a huge fan of the Audi. Great quality.

I have a 2010 Honda Accord. Nice car, but it's just not exciting. I really have no desire when I drive it. They need different surveys for different types of drivers.

I rented a Hyundai Elantra and the quality was just not there. The plastic trim just seemed cheap.

Next I'll buy an American car. Maybe not the best quality but they are more exciting to start up in the morning. For the money I pay for cars i should at least like driving it.

Ossan: Japanese have been making cars for only 50 years? Well, Germans have been making quality automobiles for 100 years. How dare anyone compare an upstart Japanese car manufacturer like Toyota to a century-old tradition German car manufacturer like Mercedes-Benz?!!

    Lol...

If the Germans have been making cars this long, why does the repair cost and parts cost two to three times more than the Japanese cars? Maybe inefficency? Entry level C-series MB is a lousy car. Just don't expect it to perform like the BMW 3-Series. The C250's 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is a major disappointment for $40K price when you compare with Infiniti G37, Lexus I350 or Audi A4 Quattro. The engine sounds very noisy when you push the vehicle, and handles poorly. I guess you call it quality, but it's a lousy car.

sfjp330: I was doing a parody. IE: Joke.

It's so silly to think that just because Japanese cars came before Korean cars, they will always be better. There were German cars before Japanese cars. And Japanese cars were considered cheap and poorly designed back in the 70s, too. But in just a decade or so, there are Toyotas and Hondas all over the U.S.

Same goes with Korean cars. And later Chinese cars will get better and better. I forsee quality Chinese cars in the U.S. market within 10 years.
