Next up in conspiracy theory: "Do chem trails cause lung cancer?"

1 ( +2 / -1 )

actually this could have a plus effect, if tabacco biofuel production becomes widespread it could cause increase the market value of the plant and also make smoking related products more expensive. high cost/taxes in tabacco has proven to reduce the smoking rate

Earlier this year, Boeing and research partners in the Middle East said they would start field trials after recording progress in making biofuel from desert plants fed with seawater.

Seems promising? (As in better than the current state of affairs)

what about the secondhand smoke?

Another scam for the BOD to scam shareholders out of millions of dollars! This is not a viable alternative, and will fade away like the rest of them.

Critics of biofuels say they are often manufactured from food crops, or compete for land and water with food crops, driving up food prices.

Beats more war for oil, or war for control of oil profits. And its not like the petroleum is nearly as infinite a source of energy as say, the sunlight and the cycle of life on this planet.

Finally, tobacco companies will leave consumers alone for good if they find profit from this project.

Please cite a reputable study showing this has been proven, because all the research I have read shows these tactics have little or no effect on smoking rates.

@frughy plenty of info available just search it, also plain package smokes in Australia is also producing lower smoking rates, tobaaco companies have been trying to discredit the statistic so they can make a case in court against it. but the results speak for themselves and now the UK is seriously considering plain packaging also. tobacco companies are scared as the smoking rates continue to drop. smoking rates where 24% in 2001 and have dropped to about 18% in 2012

Biofuel research is interesting because of the potential for sustainable production but, as the subsidies for corn-to-ethanol drive the price of basic food up in the US (and therefor the rest of the world) you do have to wonder about the wisdom of the whole thing in the long run.

There has been a lot of effort to take the inedible bits of food plants to make ethanol but that hasn't been economically viable - yet. That's why there's research.

Marvellous news for all those smokers on long haul flights. Now all we have to do is smoke like troopers to keep our plane from falling out of the sky! Simple.

This may save JT ( Japan Tobacco ) if the majority of Japanese smokers either ever figure out smoking tobacco sucks or somehow kick the addiction.
