Bvlgari to release charity ring and pendant for 'Save the Children'

Italian jeweler Bvlgari Group on Friday announced in Tokyo that it will sell charity rings and pendants from Feb 18 to raise money for the UK-based international non-government organization “Save the Children.” The project is part of the group’s 125th anniversary campaign in 2009.
“This is the first large global project for the Bvlgari Group,” said CEO Francesco Trapani at Bvlgari Ginza Tower in Tokyo. “Big companies need to be socially responsible.”
Bvlgari will release two different silver rings on Feb 18 and a silver pendant from April through Dec 31, 2009. The rings and the pendant will be sold for 39,900 yen each at Bvlgari stores, its online shopping website and department stores. Trapani said 7,600 yen of each sale will be donated to “Save the Children” to support the organization’s “Rewrite the Future” campaign for children in war-torn countries and regions in the world.
“I hope young people in Japan will be interested in the charity campaign,” said Trapani. The Japanese market accounts for 20% of the group’s global sales, according Trapani.
Trapani said the group has been facing a difficult sales situation since October. “October was very difficult. November has not been better nor worse.” He forecast that 2009 will be more difficult but added that Bvlgari will not change prices of its merchandise for the time being.
The group also announced that several celebrities, such as Julianne Moore, Ben Stiller and Sting, will support the global charity campaign.
