so instead of making money by selling good cameras, they make money by currency manipulation? no they keep R&D and about 50% of production in Japan , helping Japan, once you move R&D to cheaper countries like China you've basically lost control altogether. Too many here on JT think Japan should just give in and move everything to China and be done with it.

"Canon uses foreign exchange contracts to manage certain foreign currency exchange exposures", apparently (according to their 2015 annual report), but it would seem that they are only smoothing out some of the effects.

With the central planners intent on messing with the value of the currency, if I were trying to run a big business like Canon I'd be trying to hedge more.

Canon cut its full-year target owing to the “prolonged economic slowdown in developing countries, along with the negative impact of the revised foreign exchange rate assumptions on sales and gross profit”.
