Political decision? Can it do this unilaterally? Isn't China a WTO member? Doesn't it have to take the case there before imposing duties? Just asking anyone who knows more about this than I do. I get the feeling China feels it is not part of the world; that it is special and can do what it likes. I wonder why I get such a feeling.

China thinks and feels they are the world and they are the only LAW of the world and everything China does is legal and they will not use the courts and agreements they sign if they feel its not to their advantage. People need to stop buying chinese stuff and put them in place but will not. It all starts as this trade rules are constatly ignored by by an EVIL EMPIRE as the chinese are and is a prelude to war. China will start the next war and it will be ugly as they will decimate ASIA. Prepare for WW3 as we will be there soon

Too much fearmongering!

I happen to live in a city that's replacing a bridge across saltwater, and the engineers rejected the steel it got from China because it was neither forged nor welded to specifications. It was returned, re-smelted and sent to Africa. Hey, they've got a market.

"Political decision?"

Of course it is. No other country has practiced more dumping of commodities such as steel than China. They overproduce to keep their factories working at 100%, The excess capacity is shipped overseas to be sold for next to nothing.

grain-oriented electrical steel

What on earth is that when it's at home? Surely this whole story is a joke though, as China is the one dumping below cost on world markets due to its production capacity been drastically increased in recent decades and its domestic demand having now crashed.

China looking stupid here, it really is time the world stop investing in the Chinese monster we have all had a hand in creating.

Those with operations in China need to start looking elsewhere, push is coming to shove folks, we got to stop feeding the monster

That said I feel for Chinese people, their country treats them like dirt

And people seem to think that this one party CCCP, is on the cusp of democracy? Their word can't be trusted. They are bent on being the world's hegemon. Look out!

Let them. They are the ones that are going to ultimately suffer since they can't manufacture the same quality steel so at the end their products will be lower in quality resulting to rejects by nations who imports from them. Basically they are heading into a vicious cycle of decline of export to other nations.

I haven't bought Chinese products for years. Can other commenters claim the same? I've been making in ethical choices in my shopping for decades. Guess I'm lucky cos can afford to. Most people don't care when it gets to the bottom line.

China doesn't play by the world's rules when it comes to geopolitics. China doesn't play by the rules when it comes to trade and economy either. The doomsday crowd may well be right that the next major war will be caused by China with it's insatiable appetite for natural resources and refusal to work in cooperation with the international community.

Childish. Don't support their economy - I don't.
