TOKYO —
The Chinese government has approved an application by Mizuho Corporate Bank for it to begin preparations for the establishment of a branch in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The authorization was granted on Aug. 7 by the China Banking Regulatory Commission to Mizuho Corporate Bank (China) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mizuho Corporate, it said. The Wuhan branch would make Mizuho Corporate the first Japanese bank to establish a business base in inland China. The branch would be the bank’s 10th business base in China following those in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and elsewhere.
Major Japanese automakers such as Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. as well as major Japanese firms from various industrial sectors have set up business bases in provinces such as Hubei, Sichuan and Jiangxi, Mizuho Corporate officials said.
