Company unveils red wine for cats

A Japanese company has manufactured wine especially for felines.

On Tuesday, pet food and supplement maker B&H Lifes launched its newest product, Nyan Nyan Nouveau (“meow Nouveau”).

In a press release, the company stated that the wine comes in the wake of popular products such as Wan Wan Beer (woof woof beer) and after receiving numerous requests from customers asking for “a drink for my cat that we can celebrate Christmas and birthdays with!”

Nyan Nyan Nouveau does not, in fact, contain any alcohol, but is packed full of vitamins and, along with a trace of catnip, includes juice from Cabernet Franc wine grapes.

The maker acknowledged that most cats do not tend to consume liquids for their taste, but anticipates a great many orders from pet owners who want their furry friends to join in the fun during the festive season and upon the imminent arrival of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau, of which Japan is the world’s second-largest consumer after Germany.

Nyan Nyan Nouveau is on sale via B&H Life’s online store, and costs 399 yen for a 180ml bottle.

They could have been more creative than that. I would suggest coming up with different variants of the red wine. For example, Catbernet Sauvignon, Meowrlot, Purrgundy, that sort of thing.

No alcohol?? What's the point? I was hoping to get hammered with my three cats!

In case anyone's still wondering why the Japanese aren't taken seriously at times...

Cats love eggnog and dogs are crazy about beer. Why bother making special wine?

“a drink for my cat that we can celebrate Christmas and birthdays with!”

My grand-parents always said that passed for rabbit during the war, so I suggest cooking them in Armagnac with a few prunes.

<this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau

That's for pigeons or kamos.

If there's enough catnip in it, your felines will get a bit high (not to be confused with matatabe, which is more like an alcohol effect). YouTube has some great catnip-fueled videos if you're unfamiliar. Happy Holidays!

After toking, we'd blow smoke into the cats faces, and they liked it. Cats are connoisseurs of herbal merriment. As for the the vinaceous kind, it's my first time to hear of it.

"Wan Wan Beer... Nyan Nyan Nouveau"

I've heard of everything now... until the next RocketNews story!"

"does not in fact contain any alcohol... 399 yen for a 180ml bottle"

Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Good idea! My dogs they can booze with me when we move back to Japan. It will be a lot of fun but my wife will be headache because she does not drink.

I hope Wan Wan beer will not turn my dogs to Gan Gan and bite us. By the way, do they (my dogs) need to show ID to prove they are not under age when I buy the Wan Wan Beer or Wan Wan Shiraz or Woof Woof Champagne for them?
