A worsening of conditions for child workers in china? A few more million hectares lost to cotton plantations? Increased salinification of water tables, pesticides in the food chain and nitrates in the ocean.
Still, it's nice to have cheap jeans, isn't it?

for a people who love sporting their 3000.00USD shoes and designer bags, would they really be able to wear 900 yen jeans? Perhaps there is a growing number of Super Poor in Japan who can't afford anything more. Could it really be the 2nd world economy with so many poor?

Tough choice, a cold beer or a pair of jeans. Nevermind, they won't have 34*36 size anyhow.
desmosedici at 01:26 PM JST - 5th September
Hey jkoffman, they have a size 34x32, so you could use as a knickerbocker? But agreed, you could also buy many fake beers for that kind of money. The good thing is, that after having loaded up on fake suds, one could easily afford another 880 yen to buy a size 36x32. Anyway, I think it's great. For 880 yen I wouldn't bother washing these things anymore, but wear them for a couple of weeks and then just throw 'm away and buy a new one.

They probably LOOK like Y880 jeans too. Wouldn't touch them. Child labor and encourages the disposable attitude of desmosedici types. However, maybe homeless and unemployed people will "benefit".

This is part of the spiral down. Cheap wages chasing cheap goods chasing...
It's a reversal of years of fighting to raise living standards. Enough of the feel good progressives like Obama and Hatoyama who talk the talk but strut with the corporate elite. Time for more hard-core battles again I'm afraid.

All nations/Japan have low income earners and high income earners.
Jeans at 880 yen bring abundance of clothing for all.

If your gaijin legs are much too long for these cheap jeans, hey just make yourself some shorts! Get them scissors and presto magic! A new pair of shorts!

You think you've got it bad? Try finding a 40 waist and a 42 length when all of you're clothes are in the rinse cycle and you've got a meeting in half an hour. Oh how I love my business trips to Japan.

How much were those jeans Miyuki Hatoyama was modeling the other day?

And the race to the bottom in on. Give me a call when things go pear-shaped and they start paying customers to receive these jeans.
as_the_crow_flies at 12:24 PM JST - 7th September
I'm glad about this. Maybe jeans are finally returning to claim their rightful place as cheap hardwearing utilitarian wear totally divorced from insane concepts like brand and exclusivity. A bit like the market righting itself after 50 years of insanity.

Sounds good to me. I find it odd that brand name jeans in the states, that are the same brand names as here, cost 1/10 the price in America. I do not get it. I buy my jeans in America.
