TOKYO —

Daihatsu Motor Corp on Tuesday unveiled its new fuel-efficient Mira e:S minivehicle that it says is as fuel-efficient as hybrid cars and can travel 30 kilometers on one liter of fuel.

Daihatsu said the engine’s combustion efficiency was improved by redcuing air resistance, adding an automatic idling function, a resin throttle valve, as well as a lighter chassis. The automaker said the Mira can achieve almost 40% improvement in emissions over existing models.

The Mira e:S is priced at 795,000 yen, Daihatsu said.

Who thinks up the names for these cars?

That is a no brainer smarticus.

Rule number one. It must have the letter "R" in it.

Saw it on the news last night. Looks like a nice cheap little Tonka Toy.

All these e cars are way too expensive. Another rip off.

I think that's for months when it's safe to eat oysters. The other Daihatsu passenger car models include Copen, Cocoa, Conte, Move, Tanto, EXE, BOON, Luminas, COO and Be-Go. They sound more like the names of animation figures and the cars aren't much bigger than some plush toys. Daihatsu, by the way, is an abbreviation for "Osaka Hatsudoki" and the company predates both Nissan and Toyota as an auto manufacturer.

The Mira is another eyesore for Japan's already clogged roads... Why can't they make a kei that actually looks good - like a 4 seater Copen or something..

Looks like it's powered by rats.

Foxie, I agree that some of the electric cars or even hybrids are a bit expensive, but 800,000 for a car? That's pretty cheap.

Daihatsu is owned by Toyota and im sure if their cars were powered by rats the technology would be used instead of hybrid technology.
