TOKYO —
Discount sales of food products close to their expiry dates have not been spreading at Seven-Eleven convenience stores across Japan despite Seven-Eleven Japan Co’s acceptance this summer of a Fair Trade Commission order to stop barring franchise stores from selling such products at discount prices, the firm’s chairman said Monday.
‘‘Those that have reduced their prices amount to less than 100 stores’’ among the approximately 12,000 Seven-Eleven stores across Japan, Toshifumi Suzuki told reporters in Tokyo. Following acceptance of the FTC order, Seven-Eleven Japan began a new system under which it shoulders 15% of the cost of unsold box lunches and other food products that its franchise stores dispose of shortly before their expiry times.

So much food is wasted here. The owners of the franchises are too afraid of lowering the @rices, because 7-11 can play delivery games. But, then it would put their system in a bad situation. 7-11 is not all ii kibun
