Oy! Airbus, deliver the ones you promised first!

  • kenchan at 08:51 AM JST - 12th April

    and boeing does?

anyways...the PM's comments will do nothing for airbus in the Japanese market...The heavy industries are tied to boeing and their relationships won't die soon if ever. A shame really.

Both Airbus and Boeing seem to be having some problems meeting delivery schedules - but at least the A380 is a new and innovative product, which promises to significantly reduce fuel consumption, and thus emissions, per passenger. I hope that the Japanese airlines will buy some - but I don't suppose it will happen soon

Not sure why the 380 interests anyone as a passenger. So darn big it can only land at certain airports - less than optimum in an emergency. Hundreds more passengers just means more potential for delays with connections or other general retardedness. Prefer what Boeing is thinking - larger windows, increased humidity, creature comforts... Also, the airplane will use 20 percent less fuel for comparable missions than today's similarly sized airplane.

Wouldn't it be cheaper overall to use the 787 instead of the 380 since you don't really have to change the infrastructure ( runway, taxiway, gates & jetways,) for the 787? (While undertsandalble that NRT and KIX will likely need to upgrade anyway for other carriers)

From what I've seen, ANA has a lot of Airbuses, JAL uses mostly Boeing. Why doesn't this guy tell ANA directly? And who is he, anyway?

  • Ultradude at 08:28 AM JST - 16th April

ANA has about 30+/- Airbus airframes out of the 170 or so total fleet. Airbus has an office here in Tokyo with about 40 people dedicated to trying to sell to ANA and JAL.

Ultra beat me to it. Ever since ANA started working with Boeing as one of the "partners" in the 777 project, they've mainly kept with Boeing. ANA was actually slated to purchase the 340's from Airbus until the 777 project came along; ANA decided to use the 777 for the long haul/high capacity instead and switched their order to short-haul A320 and A321's.

However, ANA already retired all of their 7 A321's from the fleet as of February 2008 and the remaining A320's are being phased out too. (8 to be retired in 2008).

Besides, since ANA is the "launch customer" for the DL and they already have resources vested in the design (interior) of the plane, I'm sure they won't easily go to Airbus.
