These 'responsible' business leaders may call PM Fukuda's resignation 'irresponsible' but TSE is likely to react 'positively' atleast for today, just my guess.

Aren't most politician's irresponsible taking their own interests above the majority?

So Japan in limbo for another few months. Why did he not do the decent thing and dissolve parliament?

It must be a good job if nobody wants it. It doesn't paint a good picture of the governmental stability of Japan.

I don't blame him. I would resign too. He was deadlocked from the start. I don't want to critize, but more people should resign. I think it is honorable to resign, then to just sit there.

Where do these politicians think they are, Italy????

So much for the vaunted "Japanese" perseverence.

only his resignation was irresponsible? what about the last 11 months?

The job of a prime minister doesn't bear much more responsibility as the job of an McDonald employee ... or so it seems.

ahhh Fukuda you have now done an "Abe" I guess that Aso is next up to bat, why do they only try to bunt.......

deepair, Jpn has been in limbo since the end of the 80s, but the PMs of late........ even calling them pathetic seems like too much of a compliment. The is no leadership what so ever in this country.

So, while the economy is shite, he decides to resign?? what a goose. It`ll only hurt international investment into Japan even more, and with Aso being next in line.. Even worse!.. Very irresponsible.

It's so darn easy to make the PM a scapegoat for the very uncooperative atmosphere which has prevailed in parliament for so long. It's not Fukuda who is to blame. It's the total lack of cooperation of the opposition in trying to solve long standing political issues. All they seem to be able to do is criticize, nothing creative or positive offered. My ears are continuously ringing with Ozawa's 'kokumin no tame, kokumin this, kokumin that'. But I am still waiting for something worth listening to.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's nursing some ailment as he had a major operation hidden from the public some years ago.
