Good Relief for individuals for 30 days. However, Public/Private Transport Companies did not offer a single Yen discount during this period and must have saved millions in profits.

I will pay what I want to pay and they will like it. Do not try to charge me a higher price. You are honored to have me as a customer.

lol thats nothing. In rip off Britain the average fuel price per ltr is about £1.18 which is about 243JPY

    Tough Guy - Har!

1keiron - Is the ripping off of consumers of gas, er, petrol, in Britain having the desired effect of petrol conservation there?

April 1st 2008 the government lowered taxes by -25 yen which took 2 weeks for the local gas stand to reflect a -15 yen lower cost. They said it took 2 weeks because of the gas in the ground... bs...

But somehow the gas in the ground, that before was based on old amount, will increase in value overnight. Seems like another "m" story in Japanese. (The weak governed by a few) A country full of "shoganai" people who have too much money.

Hi Sarge. Unfortunatley the same thing is happening as to when the fuel prices suddenly rose last time and caused a hiccup on the news. Everybody is panick buying causing the fuel price at most outlets to rise weekly. Fuel conservation has pretty much gone out the window...especially in Scotland where the workers at the major UK refinery decided to go on strike so fuel is delivered nationally by tanker trucks as we speak. Yet again another UK circus act. sorry to sound so skeptical but i'm just no longer proud of flying the flag anymore. Roll on Osaka : )

Is it my imagination or are these sky high oil prices more of a strategy against the west versus say the laws of economic principles... like supply and demand ?

I say it's time for the western nations to take drastic measures to curb this assault. This is all out war folks ! The middle east has gone after the economic throat of the world economy with the obvious intention of controlling the worlds markets. Time for France, Germany, Italy, the US, Australia et al to take over the oil fields and regain some order. Failure to do so could jeapordize world peace for generations to come ! The line has been drawn in the sand... do we dare cross it ? I say yes ! With stick in hand !

As the hoarding begins fire departments around the nation are on high alert. Are you safe?

Record price of 155 yen? Hell, show me where those prices are and I'll be more than happy to fill up there! Here in Yamaguchi ken, gasoline was as high as 163 yen per litre before the surcharge was taken off!! What's even more ironic is the fact that Yamaguchi has Japan's largest refinery!!

  • presidentbaka at 11:31 PM JST - 29th April

And while we're paying through the nose for gasoline, the suppliers are raking in billions of dollars in pure profits! Something needs to be done to curb these over inflated prices.

Excellent idea, let's raise taxes on a commodity that is already experiencing enormous inflation. This way it can be passed along in the cost of food and other goods and drag the economy down further. Keep up the good work boys lets deepen the world recession by starting here at home.

It amazes me that many Japanese are open to publicly condemn Chinese Olympics with demos etc. for human rights reasons, yet they will do jack squat to protest their governments 30yen tax grab. This country is so ripe for a good ole revolution. Too bad they dont have independent thinkers to get it started.

I could not agree more with what you said!! Personally, I don't mind the tax, cuz I can afford it, and i will see less congested streets. But for the love of God, why don't Japanese consumers issue at least some form of protest?!! They are being anally raped by the government and all they say is "hi, shoganai". and just spread their cheeks wide open!! WTF?!! stand up for your rights! why are you letting government take luxury vacation at your expense when you deserver cheaper gas?!

To add to this; isn't Kokudo a public company? Why is the government taxing for their product then? Isn't this same form of corporate fascism that Ron Paul was warning us about?

The fuel tax will add Y25 per litre, the oil companies are sneakily adding another Y5 per litre at the same time. Also, prices didn't fall by Y25 per litre when the tax was removed. Someone is making a lot of extra Yen here.
