Corporatocracy uber alles.

VW is filing a criminal complaint with German prosecutors, seeking to identify those responsible for any illegal actions in connection with the scandal.

This sounds like a plot line for a Philip K. Dick novel, like his A Scanner Darkly.

Winterkorn said Wednesday he took responsibility for the “irregularities” found by U.S. inspectors in VW’s diesel engines, but insisted he had personally done nothing wrong.

Ha ha! - Nope, sorry: can't do both. Winterkorn may well turn out to have been in the dark, but someone certainly gave the orders, and as VW has overnight become the poster boy for corporate malfeasance, that person or persons will need making an example of.

It seems that VW has just fallen into hell.

This scandal could quite seriously bring down VW. The EPA is chasing fines of $37,500 per vehicle - and that's just the US. How many other governments will follow suit?! No doubt there will be champagne fountains flowing at Toyota HQ!

No doubt there will be champagne fountains flowing at Toyota HQ! and VW was set to pass Toyota in number of vehicles sold this year just over 10million, although Toyota made much more profit. Now Toyota is set for expansion again, they must be drooling about now!

Toyota just expanded opening for seasonal worker.

VW had to play by the rules. While others could come with good Diesels, they couldn't so they cheated. They'll have to pay the price now. I still don't know why anyone would buy an European Diesel, they're very unreliable. I'm a owner of 2 isuzu dmax and a Toyota labdcruiser diesel thats older than me without a single engine problem.

Still shaking my head at this....

What is the advantage in turning off the emission controls once the tests have finished? If the car is able to run cleanly during the tests why not have it run cleanly all the time?

The car performance is better with the emission controls off - but with the consequence of more pollution being released.
