Billions have been spent on an idiotic war in Iraq, so it's good to see money being spent in a way which will actually help people.

Companies that have deep connections to LDP politicians will be eligible of course.

What entrenched company doesn't have deep connections to local economies? That's how they were able to survive long enough to begin with.
This new system just helps the Banks which will be able to "lend", LEND is the Keyword. This something US Banks are not doing. Backstopping the lending in this manner, will mean less involvement by the Government in companies outside of the Financial arena. This is what the US should do. IMHO

"companies must be able to raise profits in about three years, Nikai said at a news conference."
Guess that leaves out Toyota, Sony, Hitachi, Panasonic, Nissan, etc. Cmon folks get real, the auto industry is dead here as are major electronic companies. They will have to fudge the numbers, again (?), to even come close to showing a profit in these industries.
