    Interesting aside: Sanyo was started by Panasonic founder Konosuke Matsushita's son in law. So they are already kind of connected.

    Sanyo's consumer products are extremely hit or miss.

    Their digital cameras x-acti and mobile phones are at the low end. However, Solar and batteries are #1. i see a lot of synergy here.

    however, mergers are of little use if the new company refuses to lay off excess personnel and slim down.

    Panasonic? Matsushita? National? All these silly attempts at name/image changing only confuses the consumer. It hardly inspires trust or familiarity. The current management wants the family name Matsushita to go into oblivion.
