300 yen for 10 eggs? Ha ha ha ha ha! I pay around 150-160 yen.
"An egg is an egg"
I guess Cleo will be here shortly to tell us otherwise... something about free-range eggs which I can't find anyfreakinwhere...

Whaddya wanna bet McDonalds Egg McMuffin doesn't go up in price over the next 6 months ! What is it about Japanese food companies, with all their scandals and tainted food stuffs, that make them think the consumers will continue to shell out for these outlandish prices. Fact is supermarket, department store, and overall domestic spending has been in the junker for years now ! And as bankruptcies continue to soar, you'd think the trend would be for high volume sales at minimal profits ! The old days of gouging the consumer are long gone and announcements like this only fuel the fires of angst and nervousness among the populous ! I sure as hell won't be buying any 300 yen eggs in the near future... Costco keeps my food pantry pretty full !

I would never eat free-range eggs or chickens. You know that chickens eat themselves and basically will eat anything including their own feces. Dirty birds if left to range. Completely disgusting! As for Costco, like the company but went there last week to buy butter. They told me only 1 package. Completely crazy! First come First serve. But not in Japan, where the butter and soon to be egg police will stop people from buying them, in the fear that they will sell out. Anyway, different point.

Daaayuuuum! After reading noborito's post, I may never eat another egg or chicken again...

When I was in about 1st or 2nd grade I read that chicken eggs were made of worms, because that is what chickens ate... I could not eat an egg for about 10 years.

Come to think of it, chickens are just about the dumbest animals on the planet. If we eat too many chicken eggs or chicken meat...

Cleo! Where did you say we can buy free-range eggs? At the local nokyo? There isn't a nokyo anywhere near my neighborhood... But after noborito's post, I'm not sure they are any better, just more expensive!
USARonin at 04:53 PM JST - 24th July
Go into a henhouse and bust a raw egg open on top of a chicken and see what the other chickens do to that chicken.
Er... Not that I would know.

They're better because the mummy birds aren't kept in cages too small for them to turn around or even stand up in. A happy bird lays a quality egg. It's also less likely to be laced with antibiotics and hormones to promote laying.
Remember that cheap beef is also fed chicken litter, including the pooh.

Direct from the farmer is the way to go nowadays. I buy all of my produce from the farmers selling them at the entrance of my train station when I come home from work. A huge head of broccoli for 80 yen, a bunch of carrots for 100 yen, and ten eggs for 98 yen.
Heck, there's even a nice lady I see selling some edamame, onions, and green onions for real cheap near my apartment. Supermarkets and the like are outdated. Screw the middleman, go direct. It's cheaper, fresher, and healthier.

eggs...300yen...so high, I can't afford to but them . I just bring some eggs from the henhouse everyday. They are so fresher and milder tham the eggs which are sold at supermarkets. I can get eggs itselves and safety from the them.

Well I don't buy "high quality" eggs, so I guess this doesn't affect me. My eggs usually cost 1 yen when I buy over 2000 yen of groceries on "Egg Tuesday" at the local supermarket.
