    Er, the problem with the usage here of U.S. slang 'gas' for gasoline is that in an article like this it becomes unclear whether this car will be a gasoline/petrol-electric hybrid, or really a gas-electric (as in LPG) hybrid...

    Nowhere in the article does this difference become clear. Which is it that they are working on, I wonder? :8(

    I believe based on other news reports found on the web, Honda is pursuing a gasoline / electric hybrid powered vehicle (not LPG powered or a plug-in hybrid). I've also read that Honda is pursing in parallel an effort to produce hydrogen powered vehicles (perhaps one of the most wasteful methods of going "green" - using more energy to harness hydrogen than what you'd burn in regular gasoline). Honda's plan to reduce manufacturing costs is to build two new production lines at Honda's Suzuka's plant that's capable of manufacturing different types of engines including diesels. Honda's shooting for the commonality concept in manufacturing, as to cut costs and go head to head with Toyota's Prius.
