Hooters to open 2nd Japan restaurant in Ginza in early June

Hooters Japan will open its second restaurant in Ginza in early June. The company opened at its first location in Tokyo's Akasakamitsuke in October 2010 after nearly five years of negotiations between Hooters Japan and the company’s head office in Atlanta.

Hooters Japan is currently recruiting 150 Hooters girls for the restaurant which will serve seafood, sandwiches, salads, burgers and spicy chicken wings. American Hooters girls will train the local hires from mid-May.

Prior to the opening of the first restaurant, nearly 400 girls applied for the job and 40 were selected, including 10 foreign girls. One Japanese waitress was selected to represent Hooters Japan at last summer’s Miss Hooters World Contest in Florida.

The second restaurant will be located at Ginza 8-chome, a 3-minute walk from Shimbashi Station.

Way overpriced food. It's too tame and their song and dance can be compared to Cold Stone at best. There are much better places with better food and cheaper prices.

Yep I checked out the hype in Akasaka. Pricy. There was also a 1 hr wait too, dinner hrs (happy hr)... They needed tabletime turnover training. There were people in the window looking in and seeing freshly cleaned tables with 5 minutes open... That was a year ago so maybe they figured that out. Put bums in the seat asap and push em out the door. The Japanese guys were annoying as they came to drool and not over the food.

will ease unemployment rate a little.

I'll say one thing to Japan Hooters critics: Don't Go. More room and less wait for the rest of us.

Ah, yes. Hooray for HOOTERS! Delightfully tacky, yet unrefined. One of my favorite places;Good food, nice views, great times. Great to hear a second location will open. Let's hope for more locations!

Wish I could be the one doin' the interviews to hire....

Wonder if there is a market here for the cleavage cover being advertised on JT today.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

From the PR photo, it looks more like "Hooters Lite"...

Tokyo get's a nice pair of Hooter's... that's a good thing.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Being Japan, will this chain end up more like South Park's "Raisins" ?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Not a market for that cleavage cover described in another article in JT today, I suppose...

Can't say hooters is my restaurant of choice. But in australia its relatively cheap cause there are a few of them scattered over around. Although going to an american hooters is the real deal. pitchers of beers, fried everything... actual hooters (lol)... hooters food was made for americans by americans.. it just doesn't work that well anywhere else. Even in australia its not that popular.

You went for the food? ;)

Seriously though, it isn't bad value and the service is attentive (to be fair though, not uncommon in Japan). The cheesy dance - hmm, a little embarrasing. Don't think that Ginza is the right location though. Lots of madams doing their shopping at overpriced boutiques isn't the obvious market segment. Somewhere between Roppongi Hills and Midtown to catch the office crowd is probably better.

Hope they open one in Yokohama soon... Akasaka and Ginza are a fair trek for us over here in Kanagawa.

But do they have chicks in skimpy outfits? No? Then what's your point? Do you honestly believe people go at Hooters for the food only?

Went to that Akasaka mitsuke Hooters last year for lunch and was served by a real nice waitress who claimed she in training to become a JAL stewardess. A few minutes later I see guys bringing in their girlfriends to eat there. The girlfriends looked just a pretty if no prettier, than the waitresses. Only in Japan.

Look at my Gravatar gentlemen. Yes, it is still a restaurant. Not only did I NOT find a great burger there but I didn't see any REAL Buns. Sorry Hooter girls, if it's just a physical thing then I wasn't impressed. I was impressed by how positive our waitress was. She was nice, great personality. The only problem with that was the kitchen was really backing her up. The food was nothing to write home about. I DIDN'T write home about it. Not even a text to my friends.

There's plenty of flesh visible anywhere in Japan. Paying high prices for mediocre food = FAIL.

Now if there had been a strip show, you know, anything along the lines of entertainment then I wouldn't be so negative on Hooters. It was bright, we had to wait, food bombed, I'm not going back.

I recommend the rack of lamb.

Foreigners make up what, 2% of the population and their staff is 25% foreign? Perhaps they could have a chat with other companies in Japan when it comes to employee discrimination.

Mind you, not exactly like the locals have the cup size to impress. Can't hide behind the padding at Hooters.

wait, some people actually go there for the food?!?!

This aint the real HOOTERS, these J hooters well maybe be big compared to a flat as wall Japanese Jr. High School girl, but come on! Duded around the world got to places like hooters, well to admire beautiful young ladies with extremely BIG tatas, right??

More sexual fetishizing of women, as in OMG'i's comment just above mine. I'm sorry, it is disturbing. What if the tables were turned? Would you think this was so clever?

Had a case in the States where a school bus on field trip stopped at a Burger King for lunch and Hooters was next door. Some of the boys went over to the Hooters for lunch. When the principal found out, he suspended the boys from school for going into a "strip club" on a school trip. LOL

If I were to equate Hooters to a Japanese thing, it would probably be that Hooters is America's version of the Maid Cafe. They wear costumes, stroke the customer's egos (but that's all they stroke), and the food can be all over the charts in taste/quality depending on who's behind the grill that day.

Hooters: a tribute to the seventies in the USofA. Bad food, bad for ya and sad chicks with hot panted candy cleavage coated personalities.

This ain't Rock n Roll, It's Genocide. Fun because it's kitchy. Sad because it's the US's main export, heart disease and titillation.

"You want slut with your fries?" When the gloss wears off it's the worst amusement park and you're eating there. But, definitely, GO! early, laugh all day.

Their chicken wings are like pigeons

Lets play spot the foreigner....

Cute, but something seems to be missing.... Except maybe the girl in front & the gaijin on the end of the 2nd from back row (maybe the back row as well, but can only see their heads in the photo).

Even worse that Hooters brings this sort of brain-washed commentary from the same sex. Ah well, looks like social analysis will be lost on this one. It is still sad to see that women's breasts (implying overly large and exposed) are supported as the measure of a woman's worth.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I thought we would have an actual Japanese "first" in that photo... A picture of a group of girls where they aren't flashing the "V" sign. Then I saw the girl in the back left corner of the group. :-(

If we're to talk about "brain washing", we should talk about the mentality that believes a person can't make a comment in jest without being accused of being "brain-washed".

As far as your rhetoric regarding women's breasts, even in America the number of Hooters waitresses who have average-sized mammary glands is greater than the number who have bigger (either naturally or artificially) ones. It's more about proportion than size. An anorexic girl with 44 DD "cannons" is going to look bad no matter WHO is loooking at her. The Japanese Hooters Girls in the picture are probably a good representation of what you'd find in any Hooters world-wide... mostly average, some above-average, and some below-average. It's more about attitude than physical attributes when it comes to determining what a "good" Hotters Girl is.

I think you got it wrong here, don't think so deep. Women are God's gift to men.

OR....I was just simply thinking about my husbands birthday present this year! A trip to Hooters would sure beat another pair of socks if its worth the money - hence the question. But feel free to analyse away the social psychology of birthday present decisions.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

OMGhontoni, thank you for the birthday comment. My wife took me for my last birthday. We had a blast. And she likes the food as well. Those who don't like the place should simply go elsewhere and be happy.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Herve - glad you had a good time there! Its settled then - Im taking him to Hooters! He is going to be thrilled! Cant wait to see his face! The girls in the pic all look gorgeous. He will think its his birthday AND Christmas!!!
