I have an energy guzzling 42" plasma TV that puts out enough heat to warrant using the air-con to keep the room cool and, I LOVE IT! Eco points??? Make it illegal for people to sleep in their cars and diesel trucks with the engine and air-con running and they might actually put a dent in the carbon footprint.

This is just a ruse to help the manufacturers reduce their huge inventories. I paid 33,000 for a color TV with a CRT screen and by July 24, 2011 I expect that's what the digital LCD models will be going for. (They already are in the US.) If not, I'll buy and adapter and keep watching my old TV -- the program quality is so bad, I can't justify laying out more than 30,000. And I'll have to pay to get the old TV shipped to China, where it will be disassembled and the lead in the glass will seep into the soil and water and cause all kinds of horrible birth defects. Sorry, guys.

The manufactures are not getting it close to the mark in terms of savings. To solar panel your house you are looking at a 19 year investment just to break even but houses of that age are considered scrap and by that time there would be new ones you would need to get probably. Fuel efficient green vehicles cost more than the savings they are likely to return over its life expectancy I bet. Its like the lpg conversions, you have to be prepared to drive around in a heap waiting to get the return on investment.
