Update: TOYOTA has confirmed a flaw in their Lexus GX 460 SUV model, that has caused Consumer Reports to publish a "don't buy" statement due to a rollover threat. TOYOTA is looking for a fix, stopped sales and idles the Japanese production line for the vehicle. If a formal recall is planned is undecided.

A friend of mine & a shooting partner was always with German made vehicles probably because he was with TRUST of what was made in Germany and their skills.
So he gave the Toyoto Lexus the trust. Not saying a word, when at the range, but know this is bothering him for not once in his driving life has he been in an automotive accident of where he was in the wrong.
I can tell you some of the machinery they purchased for the plant, he was partner in, was simply outstanding which gave JAPAN products such a good name in his mind.
Being an ex-engineer of a firm I could see this step to Toyoto Luxus was a bit change since he moved here into Canada in 1949.

Ha! From a US insurance company? Dream on, if anything they'll raise the premiums instead.

Update 2: TOYOTA plans to accept the US$16 Mill. fine to avoid having to publicly confess guilt. Apparently the company knew month before the recall of the stuck accelerator pedal, but did not act.

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has linked 52 deaths to claims of sudden acceleration in Toyotas, and more than 100 wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits have been filed against the automaker around the country."
The numbers are just staggering ! It's no wonder Toyota execs continue with the "no comment" routine. They raked in $45 Billion dollars at the height of these clunkers being sold- they are now trying to protect their $25 billion still sitting in the coffers. As Kyoken has posted- Toyota has indeed accepted the $16 million dollar fine levied from the US government- that is no-where near the billions the lawyers will be going after in the next few months. This insurance payout is more of a bone to the dogs to keep them quiet for awhile- it's all for show. The real hurt is yet to come, when one parapalegic is paraded out over the media one after another- when the families of victims step forward with photos of deceased love ones step into a court of law, then Toyota may just possibly come to grips to their unethical behaviour. This will be one for the record books !
