Superstore chain operator Ito-Yokado Co said Tuesday it will launch a campaign offering gasoline discount coupons to its shoppers.

Ito-Yokado, a unit of Japanese retail giant Seven & i Holdings Co, will offer discount coupons worth 10 yen per liter of gasoline for every 5,000 yen spent at all of its 179 stores across Japan from Wednesday to Monday.

The campaign is aimed at encouraging more customers to travel to Ito-Yokado stores by car amid surging gasoline prices.

Customers can exchange receipts issued during the period for gasoline coupons and use such coupons at store designated gas stations through Aug 17. Each customer is allowed to purchase up to 50 liters at one time.
