Fuel prices are going down and likely to sink to US$100/barrel. The shortage of passengers may have forced JAL to cancel short distance flights to China or JAL is unable to compete with Chinese couriers.

Is it really necessary to explain where Kansai Airport and Narita Airport are? It makes the sentence rather unwieldy, to say the least.

zaichik - true, especially when writing "Narita International Airport near Tokyo and Xian" can be pretty misleading too. I didn't think Narita was near Xian.

And the airlines are going to pass the savings on to us when hell freezes over!

Stunning how naive people are to believe that relatively minor price fluctuations within a a matter of weeks are of any meaningful indication of where we're headed in terms of oil prices.

Like most of the 'news' on this site, this article provides barely a cursory glance at what is more likely a worldwide trend.

with the so called "fuel" surchage JAL charges, they shouldn't be unprofitable. i'm guessing the problem is that they use the "fuel" surcharge on overseas flights to finance their domestic fuel costs. or else how else to can you explain the difference between JAL's surcharge and other foreign airlines on the same routes.

If it will help JAL stay afloat, they should abolish these flights.
