JAL to increase international cargo fuel surcharge

TOKYO —

Japan Airlines has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to increase its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only, from September.

Since April 1, 2009, JAL started adjusting its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last.

As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of July 2012 was $117.58 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level will be within the range of $115.00 to US$119.99 per barrel.

The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore be 115 yen per kg on long-haul international routes, 93 yen per kg on medium-haul international routes, and 73 yen on short-haul routes.

Well, that's to be expected after the SF oil plant fire that made worldwide prices spike (and likely poison millions with carcinogens)

Cargo fuel surcharges are updated on the 1st & 16th of each month by all carriers, doesnt mean they will change per se but I get new lists every 2weeks basically

I don't remember this discussion being about nuclear. It's about oil prices increasing for JAL so they will increase surcharges. I merely added in why the oil prices increased (refinery fire in USA). Please keep your comments somewhat pertinent to the conversation.

Looks like they are going to have to increase a bit more, that tanker will be delayed a bit.
