No bailout, if cheapest fuel prices can not keep JAL afloat no one can !

They could try lowering prices to fill the planes. It seems they could make a profit on volume rather than expensive fares.

ilcub, they are lowering fares. It's been crazy how much they've dropped over the past few months. I bought a ticket to Japan a month ago for a flight in May and between now and then the price on it has gone down $200 for the same flight. I suspect it may drop as much as $300.

Japanes domestic flights are way too expensive! JAL etc..JAL has way too many flights to stupid out of the way places all over Japan, which must all be money loosers. Time to get back to the basics, stick to the major airports and let some one else fly to off the wall places.

Flying to Japan from outside seems a whole lot less expensive than flying out of Japan on the same airline. Are there any reasons for that? Are taxes higher in Japan?

We are returning home in June and out of BA, Virgin, JAL and ANA (the only direct carriers) JAL was far and away the most expensive.

This. There are no good deals to be had domestically, usually!
