Well, if JAL takes over Skymark, they'll definitely save money on fabric with the flight attendants' super short skirts!

And do they pass on some of these savings to consumers? Nope. They jack up the prices! Well, they DID lower the fuel surcharge in some cases where they raised ticket prices again.

JAL is still ordinary. ANA way better.

Agreed, ANA is hands down a better airline with better aircraft and interior design.
Smithinjapan is correct they lowered surcharge yet raised prices by the same amount. Not a chance in hell of getting a cheap flight.

Absolutely TRUE ! Not only that but the "Service" is by far superior ! The one and only time I took a JAL flight (in Business Class) and asked for a glass of water, I was told (in Japanese) "Not now I'm busy, later" ! (I wasn't the only one to get that response..)

I'm wondering, did they return the bail out money paid for by our taxes?

Yes, while fuel costs have fallen, the so called "fuel surcharge" is basically the same. Of course profits will soar.

Did you happen to also reduce the "fuel surcharge" on the tickets to the customers? oh no? That explains your stinking massive profit.

Great.... maybe now they'll payback all the money they borrowed after years of mismanagement.

Ticket Prices have increased not decreased and retiring the 747 fleet did not help. Put it this way the 747 carried 400 people or so but the 787 carries about 200. That is two flight crews and two ground crews. Fuel prices are much lower but the extra personal cancels any savings. So there are fewer coach seats and thus premium prices are being charged. True the 777 is still in service but for how much longer? I think ticket prices will rise again.

I would love to see one airline step up to the plate and start charging for seats by the kilogram. It would be innovative and might increase profitability too.
I would allow for total weight which would include check in, carry on and duty free weight. System would be much more fair.

Flew JAL last week and can well understand how they are increasing profits by cutting down on the cost of service. They wouldn't give me a newspaper in economy section, the dinner was skimpy and they served a disgusting Mos burger for "lunch" when it was 3:00 am based time of point of departure. I asked for a bun or something else and the flight attendant simply said there wasn't anything. Furthermore, there were no shades on the cabin windows, so for the last half of the flight deep into the night we had bright daylight. Won't fly JAL any time soon.
