Things people don't really need - the price of food is through the roof right now. 300 yen for lettuce? A joke.

That would be great if you could eat a tv or a fridge. But the price and quality of food remains a major issue, the price of food in particular fresh fruit and veg has gone through the roof and is getting ridiculous maybe they should be addressing that rather than worrying about the price of a tv.

Totally agree and the price of renting accom in Tokyo still remains unnaturally high.

Apaart from Mexican limes and Philipine substandard mangoes, It's really hard to believe that Japan has a number of FTAs. The only deflation in Japan that I've noticed over the last 10 years is in electrical goods and my wages. My electricity bill was unnaturally high this month.

300 Yen for a lettuce in Japan? 100-130 max where i live. I see prices falling all the time especially for foodstuffs.

Although the Tokyo area is where most posters reside and consume and purchase their products other parts of Japan are now very cheap to live. My weekly shopping bill is down by at least 50% in the last eleven years due to falling prices caused by deflation, cheap imports and competition by new stores.

Raise the consumption tax and squeeze the last hope out of the economy. It is "a vicious circle:" Increase the consumption tax, decrease consumption, less income to the government, increase the consumption tax, .................. Everyone gets the idea. Do not use Japanese taxpayers money for the IMF or the UN,, spend Japanese taxpayers' money in Japan, and the result will be that the Japanese economy grows and unemployment drop even lower. Is any reading this in government? A wise vote will save Japan's economy.

I'm not in Tokyo and prices have gone up a lot since december. Bananas from abroad are about the only fruit I am buying as they're cheap. Hurry up TPP!
