They blame the flood in thailand and the slowing global growth, if the yen was lowered exports would increase regardless of the thailand flood and the slowing global growth. Amazing that the clowns in charge still cant see it.

Foreign factors are nearly always cited for bad economic news in Japan. Rarely have I seen mentioned that Japanese manufacturers are losing out to US, Chinese and Korean competitors because the latter are producing better, more relevant products.

Why to buy J brand-name attached Chinese products when they can get the same straight from the Chinese maker selling them on fair profit, let alone a serious contributing factor what ExportExpert mentioned?

Jeff Lee
you might want to check the trade balance with Japan for those countries.
The Munya Times
That's what Japan does. They sell (export) parts and components to China for assembly. Read JETRO.

Hope these are true figures and not like unemployment rate where people suggest to multiply by two.

Nigelboy, other than posting "corrections" is there a comment about the topic you wish to make? The system that had bought such success to Japan in the past has not managed to function profitably in the current "global" economy. High wages?, that have, due to no inflation not moved for years. Focuss on high end parts manufacture that are now manufactured overseas more and more! Declining tax base, reduction of house hold spending. Competition from other countries some of whom have Free Trade agreements, it's been more than twelve months of fiscal decline, much more. It's been done before (historicaly) a complete overhaul of the economic model, but usually only after a complete collapse I hope it does not follow that pattern again.

Cricky.
It's a global recession that affects the developed nations first and will no doubt trickle down to the emerging markets as well. Coupled with the fact that Japan increased imports of LNG, they are experiencing a trade deficit. Complete overhaul ofnthe economic overhaul?? Take a chill pill pal and enjoy some Barry Manilow.

Europe needs to get its act together and stimulate consumer demand here before the rest of the world stops taking it seriously.

Japan better start thinking seriously about that TPP.

Conspiracy theories aside ;it is true that a yen devaluation would spur exports, but once Japan joins the devaluers it is a viscous circle.........

Why look at Europe? Japan still has a trade surplus with Europe.
Japan should look why it has a trade deficit with its Asian neighbors instead.

Households are not electric hungry at all. They have the most efficient eco appliances, and people bear down, close doors, shut off unused lights, and dress in lots of layers. That is what I do, Not uncomfortable at all. During sunny days, I open up all the unused rooms. Try a small fan too blowing towards the ceiling.

Japan has one of the largest reserves of methane hydrate the world able to provide cheap energy for this country, for more than one hundred years. That's why I hate these pigs of dpj party.

The situation where a goods once produced in Japan is now imported from China. Increase in imports from other countries, such as China can destroy jobs in the parts of the Japan economy that produce the same products. But due to off-setting job created in other parts of the economy, the inflow of imports is unlikely to cause a net loss of jobs economy-wide. The Japan economy at this time is operating at the low unemployment. That job loss in Japan due to foreign trade may be relatively minor occurrence, even though certain industries may be hit hard.
