Japan is 21st Century Vasco da Gama - an explorer reaching india all in search of rare earth !

Japan is trying to break China´s monopoly on rare earths, which the Chinese communist government has used repeatedly as an economic weapon against. Japan. A necessary and good move.

It is biggest blow to China. If Japan had done it a decade ago then the all Asia would have become a better, peaceful place. But instead Japan supported China. Stupid move. Now China cheated Japan and want to take all things from other asian countries. China`s growth is just by the free offers from Japan. Other Asian and African countries come and join hands with Japan and India for a better tomorrow.

I didn't know they mined rare earths in India!

First Austraila, then Kyrgyzstan....Kazakhstan.... either of the Central Asian nations, Mongolia(?) and now India. Japan is really diversifying it's rare earth resources. btw, seems Japan also have it's own rare earth projects in the works. both mining projects and also using recycled rare earths from devices.

not only rare earths, but for the past month, many Japanese companies has already looking into S. Asia, SE Asia and South America to move it's productions and factories to cut it's reliance on China.

Both are really good moves in general. of course, they will still do business and produce in China, but they won't take a huge dip when China decides to blow up again.

Japan is craving to lay its hands on the natural resources of other nations, much like US is doing and did with poor countries. The massive greed can only produce BILLIONAIRES, while most repeat most of the people of this planet do not see the basic necessities of life. It is mockery at its best, the lot of poor never changes, the religious institutions survive on the poor who live in the hope of a wonderful after life Zaheer Uddin

Agreed with Willi.

Zaheer, in general I would agree with you, but you do not see so many billionaires in Japan. Top executives generally don't get paid grossly exaggerated wages as in the West, (except for people like Carlos Ghosn who demands a French salary).
