Japan logged its worst ever monthly trade deficit in January despite an upturn in exports as the yen’s recent sharp drop pushed fuel costs higher, according to official data.

And this is the problem with messing around with the currency value. Sure it pushes exports up, but Japan is too reliant on other countries for everything from food to fuel, and in the end Japan ends up losing rather than gaining.

Problem is Japan can not buy from other countries forever. We need to keep our own industry up. Once we start to export again things will be better.

Judging by recent events, I have come to the conclusion that... It's China's fault.

Well, now that the whole "Let's weaken the Yen to boost exports" idea was a dud, what are they going to do now?

    Comparable data began in 1979.

Ahh, that explains the strange headline. I guarantee Japan's trade deficit was MUCH worse in 1946.

You know how to solve this problem? Turn the nuclear power plants back on.

Do not blame mainland China as this is the work of the greedy corps.
