The US government gives all sorts of tax incentives to businesses. The oil execs just got grilled by congress as to why they should be getting incentives at the same time their profits were hitting record highs. Chrysler was bailed out by the government. The US government gives all sorts of money for research into drugs (hey, the pharma companies like profits too) and industrial applications. So not only do I expect that Toyota might get help from the Japanese government I would welcome it.
The reason Chrysler can't compete is that it's reliability stinks and in terms of value for money it doesn't add up. Stop whining and start designing!

Superlib re: ca1ic0cat - Silly but mostly true. i.e Chrsyler was the largest recipient of government welfare in the 70s when it went bellyup. On topic, I believe Toyota took a lot off their taxes for R & D and that each Prius sold (at one point, not sure about now) was part of the R & D.

We actually made our comments in response to a different article which was pretty brief and only talked about the accusation that the Japanese government gave Toyota technology. From that perspective I thought it was pretty silly to bring up Chrysler since Honda and Nissan would actually be the ones who would be most hurt. Since then the article has been changed but JapanToday has left our comments, and I'm guessing you came in and read them after the changes were made.
