Is anyone listening to or reading the reports about the unemployment rate? Japan's FELL from 5.2% to 4.5% in TWO months. If it falls any farther, inflation will set in and the economy will be worse off than before because too much money is available because people are ready to spend it. Be thankful. The USA has 9% unemployment and Spain has 21%, just as a comparison.. In addition, Japan's birthrate has dropped dramatically in the past few years. There will be a surplus of jobs but there will be an insufficient population to support the "baby boomer" generation. This discussion has been going on for years. Now is the time for the elected officials to make some serious decisions about Japan's future rather than reacting to the numbers that the wind blows in today.

@noriyosan, Japanese UI claim 4.5% equals to US 9% as US UI stay longer up to 99 weeks. This figure is somewhat distorted. FYI

4.5percent, Japanese are as usual working hard and not many unemployed. EU and US more than double or triple rate, start working harder in the recession like us!!

"EU and US more than double or triple rate, start working harder in the recession like us!!"

I'm not sure why you guys are so insecure that the focus of your comments needs to be contrasting other nations' McJobs ratings with Japan but do please give it a rest.

As for trying to blame things on the flood, I think the flooding is one case where 'shouganai' actually has some relevance. No one planned it.

Who wrote that headline? Everyone knows that floods "dampen" exports, they don't "dent" them.

There is a difference between being a hard worker and being a slave. Slaves don't have a choice.
