"Wow, what a great news." Wrong! However, now there will be income so that the Japanese consumer can import more food. Japan farm production is losing land to industrial growth at a starling pace, as reported by Japan Today.

Wrong. Until the folks here receive some of that money in the form of increased wages/bonuses, and until they start spending some of it on domestic consumption, the actual effect on the economy is not great. Japan must reduced its dependence on exports.

Plenty of land here with little or nothing doing, people no longer want to farm so why not turn it to industrial use?

I wish they'd start by cutting down all those irritating 'sugi' trees.

Why Japan needs to protect its farm land? Because humans can't eat cars! Just a little land here and a little land there. It is not important. Sounds like the government's rationale for not cutting the budget. "It is such a small amount" until the total is finally calculated. If there is so much productive land, why are food prices so high in Japan? Industrial development of prime agricultural land can be considered land preserve. It can always be destroyed so food production can happen.

All the farmers I see here are older people, what happens when they are all dead and gone? There is no respect here for country folk or farmers, until that changes food will be both scarce and expensive in the future! Lets all go and work in Tokyo!

noriyosan and herefornow, why do you think this is not a good news? This is an important economic indicator showing Japan may be getting out of recession.
Your comments sounds like a moron to me. Domestic spending is important as well as exporting as you suggested. Japan without resources, I still cannot comprehend to your comments how you can make an economic pie bigger. Any suggestion?
