We believe this is a very attractive outcome for Lion Nathan’s non-Kirin shareholders

It's a sad day in the south indeed.

"I feel like a Tooheys or two" will now be "I feel like a Kirin or two" - doesn't have the same ring,

'glad they didn't buy Broken Hill or XXXX.

This article should really say New Zealand, or at least Australasian!!

"I feel like a Tooheys or two" will now be "I feel like a Kirin or two" - doesn't have the same ring,

?? It will still be Tooheys, just owned by another company. On that logic you would be saying I feel like a lion nathan or two until now.

'glad they didn't buy Broken Hill or XXXX. they did buy XXXX as it is(was) owned by lion nathan

Regular Asahi, Kirin and Sapporos are good beers. I do not say the same about Suntory or Orion, (Okinawa beer). As for the Happoshus, let's not even go there. Not worth it. See what happened to Kusanagi?

I don't care who owns it as long as they don't change it! Could you imagine the consequences of not being able to buy a schooner of Tooheys New?? It would be war!

Have you ever tried Suntory's Premium Malt? It's damn good if you ask me. I don't mind a cheap draft (esp. Asahi Superdry) on occasion but I'll gladly pay a little extra for the Premium Malts if give the choice of beer.

I think Kirin will also get West End in Adelaide as thats part of Lion Nathan too. But thats nothing to write home about. I`d rather drink flat, warm Coopers.

The Australian dollar being the pittance that it is, the Japanese made a wise purchase. Hopefully the Japanese can make a decent beer in Oz cause my fellow countrymen haven`t got a clue!

Well not too much of an idea in Japan. My answer is - have a Coopers. Real beer bought by real men.

How about the future of Australia's economy? Is everyone happy that the best stuff that comes out of Australia is mostly owned by other nations???

First thing they should do is trash Tooyeys. Aussie beer is 2nd worse in the world after China.

Japans economy has supposedly been comatose for the past 20 years yet it doesnt seem to have impaired in the slightest the ability of firms here to splash out serious cash for iconic brands over there. Australia, on the other hand, despite twenty years of pedal to the metal economic growth, and despite Japan being its number one trade partner and despite all the accumulated knowledge it has of this country and its ways, has managed to acquire no comparable leverage. The Todai educated bureaucrats who preside over a system that has made this possible are surely laughing up their sleeves at the thought of how they`ve managed to turn the tables on and outwit their foes of sixty years ago.
