HIROSHIMA —

Mazda Motor Corp on Thursday announced the launch of the all-new Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV through all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealers throughout Japan. The CX-5 is to be launched in the crossover SUV market, which is growing all around the world, and will become a core model in the Mazda lineup.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (including taxes) ranges from 2,050,000 yen to 3,190,000 yen.
The all-new CX-5 is the first model to adopt Mazda’s breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY including gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, body and chassis, offering a predictable and refined driving experience together with outstanding fuel economy. Particular attention was paid to design, dynamic performance, functionality, environmental and safety performance, to offer customers a stylish vehicle with a predictable and responsive driving experience, insightful features that are useful to the customer that they can enjoy for a long time.

The CX-5 has a line-up of two new-generation engines. The model equipped with Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine meets Japan’s Post New Long-Term Emissions Regulations without an expensive NOx after-treatment device, while at the same time delivering excellent fuel economy of 18.6km/L (JC08 mode), the highest of any SUV, and maximum torque of 420Nm, delivering powerful dynamic performance equivalent to a 4.0L, V8 gasoline engine.

The SKYACTIV-G 2.0L model, equipped with the highly-efficient direct injection gasoline engine, also includes for the first time Mazda’s 4-2-1 exhaust system. The driver can enjoy the linear and powerful driving sensation created by the feeling of oneness with the car, while at the same time benefiting from outstanding fuel economy of 16.0km/L (FWD model, JC08 mode).

Both models are subject to the Japan’s tax incentives to promote eco-cars (eco-car tax reduction program), as well as tax breaks for the vehicle weight tax and vehicle acquisition tax incurred at time of purchase (the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 model is tax exempt, and the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 model has a 75% tax deduction). The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 model is also subject to the subsidies for measures designed to promote introduction of clean energy vehicles.

Just a ripoff of the Nissan Juke.

Hardly comparable with Juke at all...completely different in terms of size , engine, technology and performance..( saw it at the TMS ) this will be a best seller for Mazda in places like Australia and Canada that are SUV crazy. Good effort , Mazda deserves to succeed with Skyactiv technology.

It's a nice looking car. However, the engine is a major disappointment. If you have four people in the car, the gas powered 2.0 litre has very little torque and sluggish noisy engine. Mazda should offer optional turbo to increase horsepower. The 2.0 litre engine will struggle when push the car up the hills, requiring lots of downshifting to keep the power coming. This engine gets a bit buzzy at the high side of the rev band, but nothing too surprising or off-putting given the engine size and power.

Hope they've somehow managed to incorporate larger rear seating space with softer chairs. The CX-7 was like sitting in a cramped leather coated park bench, which was the reason we went for a Toyota Harrier instead.

    Looks like an Audi SUV.

but i would like to see a sport version with lower ride, bigger rims and

It'll be a sweet ride after they modify them with awesome negative camber.

So don't worry, that'll be available.

    Looks like an Audi SUV.

How's that? The four wheels tip you off?

There are obviously Mazda workers, sales personnel here skewing honest comments.

Just do a searchnfor Nissan Juke, and you can easily see, this almost a carbon copy.

No mate no Mazda workers, just people who have an interest in cars ...when you google Juke and CX5 or see them in the showroom you will realize they are nothing alike...different in size , engine output, design , quality of materials etc etc..the only thing they have in common is they are both classified as SUV,s ...thats about all...CX5 carbon copy of Juke?...time for new glasses mate.. LMAO!...

Bigger means paying more money in weight taxes and JCI, it would cost a lot of money to register an American model in Japan.

Both are "crossovers," whatever the h that is.

The Mazda CX-5 is pretty much identical to 2012 Ford Focus hatchback. Similar 2.0 engine, transmission, weight, and looks. I driven the Focus hatchback and driven the CX-7. CX-5 is a very light (less than 2700lbs). It's a nice car but with the short wheel base, it's very choppy ride on the freeways, and I would pass on this car for the money they want. For few thousand dollars more, I prefer the longer wheelbase CX-7 with 2.3 engine. CX-7 is a better buy.

The SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine delivers 155 HP which is more than enough for the vehicle, even with 4 people. This engine also produces more torque and has better fuel economy than the previous 2.0 ltr engine. But, of course, different people have different requirements
