Mazda releases 20th anniversary special edition Roadster
HIROSHIMA —
To commemorate 20 years of Mazda Roadster (known overseas as the Mazda MX-5) sales, Mazda Motor Corp on Saturday released a special edition version of its lightweight, two-seat, open-top sports car for the Japanese market.
The Mazda Roadster has attracted a wide range of customers since its launch in 1989, and is currently sold in approximately 60 countries. The Roadster was certified as the world’s most produced two-seat, open-top sports cars by Guinness World Records when production reached 800,000 units. Total production of the Mazda Roadster now stands in excess of 860,000 units.
The Roadster 20th anniversary model is based on the Roadster RS soft-top model with a six-speed manual transmission, and the VS Power Retractable Hard Top (RHT) hard-top model with a six-speed automatic transmission. Special equipment includes unique red and black RECARO bucket sport seats, exclusive 20th Anniversary badges, and clear front fog lights.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (including sales tax) is 2,860,000 yen for the soft-top version and 3,110,000 yen for the RHT model.

Nice looking roadster! Think I will wait for the version with autopilot though...

I presume this is the Miata sold in the U.S.?

When the current version came out, they dropped "Miata" and just call it the MX-5. I had a '94, with the 1.8 engine, and it was a blast.
In the article, they refer to it as "lightweight". Is it still lightweight? It looks like it's going the 300ZX route, getting heavier and more posh.

Way funner with a V8.

Great car but I wished they would release a slighter bigger model with 4 seats.

There is the RX 8, which has a bit more space - and blast.

Too small... and it's a Mazda.

Mono - obviously not endeared to compact sports cars.
And Mazda certainly has this drop on this market, doing it with style, flair, reliability, drive and FUN.
No true motor fan would doubt this.

the hard top is an auto? what a waste, why would you buy a car like this and get an auto?
