Time for FORD, GM and Chrysler to pack it in. Nothing would be more sweat then to see all those union members looking around at each other wondering where else they can collect 6 figures for doing monkey work.

Heading back to the US soon. You will not see an American car sitting in my driveway.

Yeah, it would be rockin' to see all those goomba U.S. auto makers fold and take down all the related industries with them like electrical, engineering, steel : ) Then the only people with jobs in the U.S. will be tenured teachers n public employees... That should set the stage for a solid economic upturn.

I would buy a chevy caprice wagon or a suburban here like I had back in the states if it would fit down my street ; )

way too pessimistic haku. The Big 3 demise has been a long slow painful death since the 70's when they were in cahoots with each other and left with their pants around their ankles when a little competition was introduced. They are still locked in that same mentality and have shown little improvement in quality, reliability and value. If they were to just go away, sure there will be ripples in the economy but at least my tax dollars aren't being used to support another failing industry which is only kept alive because of politicians with factories in their states and districts need them to get reelected.

So Ford is going to sell probably the only profitable bit it has left; management is going to loot every last penny before it goes broke.

Ford USA needs more cash, so they want Mazda's stake money. Probably many US companies will try to sell stakes to put more cash into USA economy.

Fiscal discipline is low in US companies, they need new dynamic change to build responsible management teams of future.

Like Japan lost its shipbuilding industry the US is now about to lose its automotive industry, but for different reasons. Japan could no longer compete with cheap labor in Korea and next China. The US auto industry never learned to adapt to changing consumer demands, producing more fuel efficient cars and improve quality. Too bad. The end of an era.
