TOKYO —
McDonald’s Holdings Co (Japan) said Friday that it will raise the prices of its key products by about 2.5% on average nationwide, due to rising raw materials costs. It will be the third time for the company to increase its prices since 2007. About 60% of menu items will be subject to the price rises.
The price of a Big Mac will be raised to 290-320 yen from the current 280-310 yen, and that of medium French fries to 240-250 yen from 230-240 yen. A small cup of premium roast coffee, launched at 100 yen this February, will now cost up to 120 yen.
The company will keep prices unchanged for some products, including its 100-yen hamburger, while lowering the prices of some items.

Fast food is just like gasoline. If someone wants it, they will find the money to buy it. It is a shame, my first visit to Japan in the late '80s versus now is quite a change. The introduction of fast food has changed the culture. I noticed the stereo typed skinny japanese people have gained much poundage. Good living or just a societal shift in culture?

"coffee will now cost up to 120 yen"
Still WAY cheaper than just about everyone else.

How is 100->120 a 2.5% increase? That's 20% in my math book.

Cold Bacon Lettuce burger today for breakfast - left over from a 3AM binge after a wedding party! Excellent.

Yeah lots of fat people these days. But also many women are a bit more top-heavy. Nice to find that balance.
Everything has been volume up in recent years, and you have damn fools like Sone eating themselves silly. I think the country is just flaunting the fact they have food now.

Don't worry, the same is happening in the USA. There's talk of raising the price of the dollar double cheeseburger. It's just the rising cost of beef and cheese.

I saw this on the news last night. In short a few burgers will go up a mere 10 yen, so what. This is a far cry from the 70% to 100% price increases I've seen around Japan since December of last year. You gotta ask yourself, how is it possible, with transportation prices skyrocketing, that McDonalds is able to limit it's price increases to so little. Fact is, McDonalds has one of the most streamlined distribution networks in the world. If only other Japanese companies worked as efficiently.

I think redrightntrue is right. Mdonalds could teach these Japanese firms how to keep prices down.

It always surprises me how cheap McDonald's is. They are incredibly efficient. I'm not sure you can blame them for the increased poundage/kilogramage. Just get one hamburger, share your fries, don't order a soft drink, etc. It's overeating that is the problem, I think. About 300 yen is enough to spend at McD's.

A plain hamburger and a salad and a coffee or tea is not that fattening a meal, and it's still cheap.

So when are wages going to rise to compensate for all these price rises then?? Even McDonald's now. But I suppose the capitalist lords know that the little people just soldier on without compaint because that's how they've been brainwashed...
Still, don't care about McDonalds heart attack stuff one bit.

I have been in the UK and Japan during the last few months. The wages in British Mcdonalds were approx 40% highr than in Japan.
Who is making money from Japanese Mcdonalds? Not your average employee, i am sure. A few people become rich from the labors of many, disgusting.
They increase their prices too, well you will drive away customers.

Nice proofreading JT.
How is 240-250 from 230-240 for fries and increase?
Moderator: It's a 10-yen increase. What don't you understand about it?

They have some strange pricing at MickeyD's. A few months ago, I decided to have a quick lunch at the local shop. They sold cheeseburgers for 120yen each, but double-cheeseburgers went for 270yen! WTF pricing?
